With our trip fast approaching Owen and I are thinking of some sort of photo project that we can do to record our travels. A couple of projects that I'm loving:
Feet First
While sitting on a beach in England with his girlfriend, photographer Tom Robinson took a photo of their feet pointing out to sea. Since then they've documented all of their travels this way, with over 90 photos so far (that's a lot of travelling!).
To check out more photos visit Tom Robinson's website here.
The Longest Way
In 2007 Christoph Rehage planned to walk from China to Germany. He walked over 4,000 kms before he decided to stop, and took self potraits throughout his travels. These photos document the different places he walked through and the growth of a pretty impressive beard!
Have a look at the awesome video he made here, and to get the full story visit the Longest Way website here.

Inspiration: Camping
It is only in the country that we can get to know a person or a book.
-Cyril Connolly
I love camping. I'm not sure whether this is influenced by my childhood obsession with making huts, the chance to escape to the middle of nowhere, the challenge of living well without the trappings of civilisation, or that it combines two of my favourite things: eating outside and interesting living spaces!
The longest camping trip I've ever been on was for five weeks while travelling through Europe, but now I try to go camping at least one weekend every year. We've developed a tradition with some friends to go to camping at the same spot on a particular long weekend. It's a really relaxed place which allows dogs and camp fires, and also has bathroom facilities (which is always good!)
Are you into camping, or are the outdoors not really your thing?

But the place which you have selected for your camp, though never so rough and grim, begins at once to have its attractions, and becomes a very centre of civilization to you: "Home is home, be it never so homely."
-Henry David Thoreau

Every crag and gnarled tree and lonely valley has its own strange and graceful legend attached to it.When I was nine years old I had every intention of living in a treehouse when I grew up. Nowadays the practical implications (plumbing/heating/high winds) mean that I wouldn't want to live in one full time, but I'm still a little bit obsessed. I wonder if Owen will help me make a treehouse hideaway in our backyard? I feel another project coming on...

As you sit on the hillside, or lie prone under the trees of the forest, or sprawl wet-legged by a mountain stream, the great door, that does not look like a door, opens.I'm a big fan of picnics - food just seems to taste better when eaten outside! Although I prefer picnics in summer I've decided that this winter I'm not going to let the weather stop me, so I'm going to stock up on warm clothes and recipes for good old fashioned comfort food. Any suggestions?

The bicycle, the bicycle surely, should always be the vehicle of novelists and poets.

A bicycle does get you there and more.... And there is always the thin edge of danger to keep you alert and comfortably apprehensive. Dogs become dogs again and snap at your raincoat; potholes become personal. And getting there is all the fun.Really, what's not to love about bicycles? They're a great way to fit some more exercise into your day, stylish (especially vintage or retro bikes with baskets and bells), good for the environment, and so cheap to run. I absolutely love this bike and am seriously thinking about buying it, but it's about the same price as a return ticket from New Zealand to Europe so I'm trying to work out my priorities at the moment!

Inspiration: Travel
For my part, I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel’s sake. The great affair is to move.
- Robert Louise Stevenson
Once you have started travelling you may never want to stop! I have definitely found this to be true, as the more countries I visit the more I realise there is still to see. It's hard to believe that my travels will soon be coming to an end (or more accurately a pause) so to compensate I have been scouring the internet for travel inspiration.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the things you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Inspiration: Adventure
Adventure is worthwhile in itself.
-Amelia Earhart
Let me tell you a little secret that I might later regret: as soon as I hear the word adventure I'm in. Just by referring to a mundane everyday occurrence as an adventure makes me want to get involved. And like beauty, adventure is in the eye of the beholder.

Life is a fatal adventure. It can only have one end. So why not make it as far-ranging and free as possible.
