Two Years

Keeping up with tradition we celebrated our second wedding anniversary with a picnic, this time at Charteris Bay round Banks Peninsula. The weather was beautiful, once again the dog spent most of her time swimming, and we reminisced about the last year and how things are changing.

We also took another photo for my anniversary photo project (this is my favourite so far):

Summer

It was nice to get away from the city (and more earthquakes!) for a few days. Our Christmas involved visiting family, eating too much food, and exchanging gifts. Because it's summer it also involved swimming, bare feet, and lounging in the sun all afternoon.

A couple of days later we took a trip to the sort-of-secret waterfall for more swimming, a little picnic, and jumping off the rocks (or in my case taking photos of everyone else midair).

Wherever you are and whatever you're doing, I hope you're enjoying your holidays too!

One Year

It's funny how one year can go so quickly and at the same time it feels like so much time has passed. One year ago we were doing this, two years ago we were doing this, and twelve years ago we were sharing an awkward phone conversation and discovering that yes, we did quite like each other.

To celebrate our first wedding anniversary we went out for brunch to my favourite place in Brighton, and then in the evening we went for a picnic at Waimakariri Gorge. We brought along a basket full of food and our dog, who was super excited and spent most of the time jumping in the river then trying to run across the picnic blanket.

In between trying to stop the dog from ruining our new books (since it was our paper anniversary) and trying to catch grapes in our mouths, we spent ages playing around with the self-timer setting on the camera so I could get a photo for my anniversary photo project:

I'm looking forward to adding many, many more photos to our collection!

Wedding Recap: Photos

We had some time after the ceremony for some photos, followed by a picnic by the sea, followed by more photos. I hadn't been able to eat anything beforehand (I was much too nervous) so I was ravenous by picnic time. Luckily my wild-eyed, food-demanding self wasn't captured on film!

Once we'd had some food and I was ready to smile again Owen and I took a walk along the rocks, and then we headed to another beach for some more photos with the rest of the wedding party.

Once we'd driven back to the reception venue there was time for even more photos at the beach across the road. It turns out our photographer was a Beatles fan, so we indulged him on our walk back to the hall.

Inspiration: Picnics

Happiness is a bowl of cherries and a book of poetry under a shade tree.

As you sit on the hillside, or lie prone under the trees of the forest, or sprawl wet-legged by a mountain stream, the great door, that does not look like a door, opens.

I'm a big fan of picnics - food just seems to taste better when eaten outside! Although I prefer picnics in summer I've decided that this winter I'm not going to let the weather stop me, so I'm going to stock up on warm clothes and recipes for good old fashioned comfort food. Any suggestions?
